Church Leaders Pay Visit to Ghana’s Second Lady

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints met with Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, Ghana’s Second Lady, on October 13, 2015 to thank her for her support of the Church-sponsored diabetes screening projects in selected high schools in Ghana.

Mrs. Amissah-Arthur has appeared at two ceremonies to launch the National Senior High School Diabetes Screening Project -- one in Cape Coast and one in Accra.

The screening project is an initiative of the Ghana National Diabetes Association with support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Elizabeth Esi Dunyo, President of the Diabetes Association, and a member of the Church, was accompanied by Sister Kay Vinson, spouse of Elder Terence M. Vinson, a counselor in the Africa West Area Presidency, (the highest governing body of the Church in West Africa) and other Church representatives.

Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Church in support of the diabetes project and other humanitarian projects the Church has participated.  She said, “We should be at your offices expressing our thanks to you.”

All present agreed that they should continue to work together for the improvement of Ghana.
