Ghana’s Second Lady Attends Christmas Chorale Evening

Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, Second Lady of Ghana, was the special guest of honor at the December 12, 2015 Christmas Chorale Evening sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

When addressing the crowd of more than 1,000 Mrs. Amissah-Arthur spoke of love.  She said Latter-day Saints, by their conduct, were replicating the love Jesus showed through his sacrifice on the cross. She added that people must show genuine love to others even if no one is watching.

"This Christmas, it is my prayer that we all make it a point that if we haven’t started loving our children, spouses, colleagues, our church sisters and brothers, our neighbors then may I please ask we start this Christmas and show genuine love .”

Church leaders and their wives presented nine scriptural readings from the Bible about the birth, life and teachings of Jesus Christ.  The readings were interspersed with Chorale numbers by three choirs, The Winneba Youth Choir, Bountiful Collegiate Choir and a choir made up of members from several congregations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The event was held in buildings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 57 Independence Avenue in Accra, where the grounds were decorated with special Christmas lighting and a beautiful nativity.  These decorations will be on display throughout the Christmas season.

In addition to Church leaders, other special guests included:  Honorable Amarkai Amarteifio, the Swedish Ambassador to Ghana; Nii Kwarde Okropong I, La Abese Divisional Chief; Mr. Ekow Afedzie, Managing Director , Ghana Stock Exchange;  Mr. Noah Gaikpa, Director, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation;  ACP Sabina Osei-Bonsu, Divisional Commander, Ghana Police Service Ministries Accra; Mr. Noah Gaikpa, Director, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation; and Mr. Varshi Sobhraj, Overseer, Hindu Temple, Osu.
