Young adults visit and donate supplies to the aged in Twifo Praso District as part of their annual summit

News Release

Young single adults (YSA) from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated supplies to the aged at the Twifo Hemang vicinity in Twifo Praso as part of their annual YSA summit held August 4, 2017. Young adults gathered from Cape Coast, Takoradi, Mpintsin, Praso District, Fosu, Yamoransa and Tarkwa District to surprise the aged and their families with a visit.

After visiting with the elderly in the house, the young adults presented the families items such as detergents for washing, paper products, clothing, bags of rice and other provisions based on individual needs.

One of the recipients, Papa Amoakwa, who suffers from vision impairment expressed his gratitude, “What I have I ever done to deserve all these? Oh dear God, thank you so much. . . The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you are truly the Lord’s servants.”

Dorothy Pokuaa Adjen, a young adult volunteer, felt honored to serve, “I couldn’t think of anything else than to hurry from the entrance to the father [Papa Amoakwa] and assist him in his cooking processes.”

John Gyamfi, another young single adult who participated in the service, said, “I was humbled seeing Papa Amoakwa so excited, laughing and wishing to have been able to stand and hug us for such a memorable visit in his life.”

Mama Theresa Obo’s family laughed with joy and glorified the Lord’s name for such mercy, care, love and prayers answered. Mama Theresa Obo said, “I am so grateful and thankful to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for helping me today to realize my faith in the Lord again. I never expected it. . . God bless you.”

Maame Ayew Gyamfuwah, another woman visited, also expressed her gratitude, “I have always been sitting here in front of the house praying and hoping to have the Lord’s Angel visit me. Now here you are.”

“Our purpose of organizing young single adults in multi-stake summits is not to only strengthen the young single adults but guide them to fulfill their promise made to the Lord, ‘To do as the Lord commands’,” said Benjamin Johnson, President of the Twifo Praso District of the Church.

Gathering young single adult members of the Church in a conference or activity is a regular practice throughout the world. Young people help plan, with the assistance of leaders, activities and workshops that provide opportunities to expand learning, encourage leadership skills and enjoy social experiences. A community service component is often included in the conference agenda.
