Kumasi Event Invites All to #LIGHTtheWORLD

People Of All Faiths Join Christmas Celebration

Traditional hymns and African melodies highlighted the ‘2017 Christmas Choral Evening’ on December 15 at the Dichemso Stake Center in Kumasi, Ghana. Musicians and speakers from varied circumstances, ethnicities and religious backgrounds united in a global effort to #LIGHTtheWORLD as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. People of all faiths were encouraged to serve others during the Christmas season.

On November 24, 2017, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints launched a worldwide campaign to encourage people audiences to #LIGHTtheWORLD by serving one another. The initiative focuses on celebrating and sharing the light of Jesus Christ, the “light of the world” (John 8:12).

Keynote speaker Madam Susan Akomea, District Chief Executive for the Asante Akim encouraged young people attending the event. “I wish to share some advice with the youth gathered here, you can become a ‘light in the world’ by rendering voluntary service throughout your life.”

“This Church is noted for its works of humanitarian service to communities throughout Ghana. Since youth do not have money to give, then share your strength,” she said. “Be a blessing to the aged by carrying their load and helping all you can. Do not expect payment, you will be surprised at the blessings God gives you!”

Pastors from other churches, tribal leaders, government leaders, and the Mayor of Kumasi read passages from the New Testament illustrating the divinity of the birth of Jesus Christ. Adom Choir, LDS Multi-Stake Choir, and the Meduma Ward Choir lifted their voices in traditional songs which proclaim the joyous announcement of Jesus Christ's birth.

Elder M.T. Ben Davis, Area Seventy from Takoradi said, "This season we should not only rejoice in the birth of Jesus Christ, but should choose to follow Him. We should not only think of Jesus during the Christmas season, but come to know Him by doing what He did. We can ‘Light the World’ by following His example and serving one another."

The capacity crowd of more than one thousand expressed appreciation with ecstatic applause and cheerful faces at the end of the evening. Event organizers encouraged attendees to perform acts of service for others. People are encouraged to share their experiences on Social Media and add #LIGHTtheWORLD.
