Church Joins Other Stakeholders For The Construction of Community Center In James Town

LDS Charities the Humanitarian Arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has joined forces with the Government of Japan and other stakeholders for the construction of a Community Center for Women and Children in James Town, a suburb of Accra.

The three storey facility commissioned over the weekend, was greatly sponsored by the Government of Japan under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).

Addressing the audience at the ceremony, Hiromoto Oyama, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Japan in Ghana, explained that the facility will be used to provide educational opportunity and protection to out-of-school children or children living on the streets.

"Human Security is one of the major focus of the Government of Japan when we work with our partner countries such as Ghana. We work with our partners to provide protection and empowerment to the vulnerable group".

“The Community Center will also be used to conduct education and training programs for mothers of street children. Such projects would assist in building a strong foundation for the “Ghana Beyond Aid” by empowering and protecting each one of the people who will be essential contributors towards that national goal”.

“You have the responsibility of ensuring a proper and effective use of the facility. The proper use and maintenance of this Center will bring benefit to the James Town Community for many years to come. I encourage all stakeholders to make sure to safeguard this facility and use it in a sustainable way until you achieve your intended objectives, and beyond” he added.

Elder and Sister McGary, Africa West Area Self- Reliance Specialists of the Church, explained that the support from LDS Charities were contributions from selfless members of the Church.
