LDS Church Honors Family Advocates

Four individuals have been honored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at its 2018 Family Values Awards for their outstanding contribution towards the promotion and protection of family values in the country.

The individuals are, Mrs Grace Manu, Host of “Efie Asetena” a television show on Atinka TV, Madam Comfort Bediako, Founder and Proprietress of Virgin Kids Academy, Sheikh Yahaya Al- Amin, Founder and Leader of Islamic Foundation for Peace and Development, and Ghana Television’s Mrs Selikem Acolatse Apaloo Host of Women’s Voice.

The event took place in Accra, at the Church’s Africa West Area Office Complex on 25^th May, 2018. The theme was,  “Upholding Family Values for A Stronger Nation”.

Each awardee was presented with a plaque and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Church for recognising their efforts. 

Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo, Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, was guest of honor. In her key note address she said, “The three most important values we need to uphold are peace, love for each other and care for the environment and society”.

“If we all uphold these values the continent wouldn’t have cases of streetism, prostitution and waywardness because our children would imitate our good deeds” she commented.

Deputy Minister Ampofo added “Because of the family values that we, as a society neglect, when we create litter or other social problems, we don’t even care about how we manage them”.

She called on all Ghanaians to extend a helping hand to the poor and needy in order to help raise good future leaders for the country.

Elder Daniel Yirenya Tawiah, an Area Seventy (regional leader of the Church) in his closing remarks commended the awardees and urged all Ghanaians to contribute to the protection of family values.

The Family Value Awards is an initiative by the Church as part of its efforts to give recognition to individuals who have consistently channeled their resources towards the promotion of family values.
