Members of the Kaneshie Stake Relief Society visited the Nsawam Medium Security Prison on March 18, 2017. More than 130 women from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shared messages of love, hope and charity. Their mission was to provide care and service for the female inmates in the prison.

Sister Judith Mettle-Nunoo, Relief Society President of the Kaneshie Stake (a group of Latter-day Saint congregations), introduced the visiting women to the prison staff.
“From a humble beginning of just 18 members in 1842, the Relief Society now has the strength of nearly 7 million faithful, charitable and loving sisters worldwide,” she said. “We have come here today to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of the Relief Society. We bring our love and a kind gesture of hope to women who are incarcerated.”
Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Love Owusu Amponsah thanked the Kaneshie Relief Society for such a show of love. “It is laudable for you to come and support our inmates. It shows you are aware of them and value them as women. Your actions show the hand of God is upon you. Thank you for helping our prisoners know that God has remembered them today.” She hoped that others in Africa will also emulate the example set by women from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Flint Mensah, President of the Kaneshie Stake, said the sisters began planning this event nearly three months ago. “I am so proud of these sisters,” replied President Mensah. “They arose early and traveled far to share the joy they feel with these unfortunate sisters who are behind bars. These Relief Society sisters exemplify Christ-like attributes by sharing their love and caring for those in need.”
Nsawam Prison accepted a donation of food, clothing and hygiene products to be delivered to the inmates. The inmates expressed appreciation for the donations and were grateful for the shared visits, scripture messages and laughter. Indeed, the visiting women fulfilled the scripture of Matthew 25:35-36, “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.”
The motto of the worldwide Relief Society is “Charity Never Faileth.”
