Paramount Chief Welcomes 2017 Light the World Initiative

Osu Chief and Latter-day Saint Leaders Meet

His Majesty D.F. Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI was present as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officially launched the 2017 Light the World campaign on November 24 in Accra Ghana. He was inspired by the message and committed to find ways to be of service to his constituents.

Following the kick-off event, The Honorable Chief of Osu invited leaders from the Church to visit in his palace on December 12 and again on December 15, 2017.

The Osu Mantse (King of the Ga people) said, “I have observed members of your Church doing service in Osu, but had not met your leaders until I attended the Light the World program last month. I am happy you invited my wife and me to attend.”

“I was pleased to learn Latter-day Saints want to do things that will bring light to people and happiness to the world. Doing good to others will make the world a better place,” he said. “I hope we can work together to improve life for some in our Osu Kingdom.”

Elder Terence M. Vinson, Africa West Area President reviewed with His Majesty the many humanitarian projects completed by the Church throughout Africa, especially in Ghana.

Elder Vinson told him, “If there is something we can do to assist with programs you have for people in OSU, we look forward to exploring those with you and your staff. We want to understand the details of your programs and determine if there is a way we can work together for the betterment of all.”

As the meeting concluded the Paramount Chief remarked, “Thank you for coming to my home. You are no longer visitors here, but family. We are brothers and sisters. I look forward to building our friendship with one another.”
